No aquarium would be complete without a 6+ inch thick plexiglass +1,000,000 gallon fish tank containing cold water fish from all over the world. It showcases crustacean exhibits from Maine Lobsters to Alaskan King Crabs. The aquarium has a plethora of fish exhibits from guppies all the way up to Hammerhead Sharks. Otherwise YOU TOO will have a long wait until a supervisor or a police officer arrives to assist you! The Adventure Aquarium in Camden is a "WORLD-CLASS" aquarium that requires no formal introduction. You will not be able to back up if you are behind that unfortunate soul. Try to have exact change ($5 bill) and don't ruffle or damage the discount coupon otherwise you will jam up the machine-remember NO PARKING ATTENDANTS! Should you observe someone having a problem with their payment machine-quickly drive to the next payment machine. The discount ticket first and then the payment. To get the $5 discount YOU have to insert the coupon into the slot of the EXIT PAYMENT MACHINE. The discount coupon does not requires a stamped validation. Please note: eventually when you enter the aquarium a staff members will give you a $5 discount coupon off the price of any parking lot near the aquarium. However there are a few parking payment machines outside near the aquarium ticket booth and they work fine. There are no attendants nor do any of the automated payment machine on the first floor work well in horrible frigid weather. Avoid "reserved" spots clearly posted OR SUFFER THE ORANGE BOOT! Parking is a flat rate at $10 which you pay before you exit. Please park only in public designated spots-they have no signs.
Press the red button (the yellow arm goes up) and let yourself in. Another clearly posted sign also states: you don't get a parking garage ticket. There was a clearly posted sign "no attendants." So you are on your own. When we arrived at the semi-enclosed public parking lot. When we arrived at the Camden riverfront we realized the temperature by the river had dropped 10 degrees from 17'F on Staten Island to 7'F. The relentless wind will be blowing directly in your face, your child's face or elderly guest the whole time on your way to the aquarium. The frigid winds from the Delaware River are a constant reminder to bundle up wear a hat and scarf. It is a fact: Camden New Jersey riverfront weather during the winter is frightfully brutal. It can be a 10 to15 minute walk to the Adventure Aquarium ticket window. This parking lot is the closest building to the riverfront and the USS battleship New Jersey Museum is nearby-hence the brutal cold wind. Try to get there as early as you can or you will have to drive 4 minutes to a 5 floor public very frigid and windy semi-walled parking lot. My advice: the Aquarium opens at 10am and closes promptly at 5pm. The otherside is PRIVATE (AND NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC) almost empty corporate "EMPLOYEES ONLY" parking lot. The parking lot is divided into two lots by a barely two lane asphalt road. Don't waste your time trying to figure it out. You will be standing at the entrance scratching your head reading a sign that states "PARKING LOT FULL." However from a short distance you can clearly see 100 to150 open parking spots. If you arrive after 12 noon on most days you are out of luck. As you arrive at the Aquarium from either Federal or Market Streets you will notice an open air parking lot. Which will eventually take you towards a half dozen signs leading you directly to the Aquarium. Instead take the NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE (I-95 SOUTH) to exit 4 and navigate your way to 30 WEST. Avoid driving into Camden local roads-lots of lights, lots of traffic and a pure-waste of time.
From Staten Island NYC, Jersey City NJ or Manhattan the Adventure Aquarium is 79, 87 & 91 miles away respectively. The battleship is a 6 minute walk from the Aquarium.
However Philadelphia does not have a world class aquarium or the Battleship USS NEW JERSEY Museum moored on their side. Philadelphia has a much longer riverfront dedicated to tourism. It is located in a recently built up industrial park that overlooks the Delaware River and the skyline and riverfront of the City of Philadelphia. Adventure Aquarium is located in Camden New Jersey.
